Here’s my thoughts about the release dates of GPT 5 and Opus 4.1

Yes, we were all waiting for GPT 5. But after Opus 4.1 was released, I think the version number answer the question: which model is better.
First of all, there is NO NEED to release Opus 4.1. I mean why not 4.5 or 4.3? Do we really care about the 0.1 difference? No, at least I don’t care about this.
So once I noticed they release Opus 4.1, and the date was two days before GPT5, I guessed Opus4.1 will be the winner, at least in coding. Think in this way, we expect better performance for models that appear later. So if Anthropic (LLM provider of Opus) somehow has the worse model, the best strategy if to improve that and release it before GPT 5.5. But if Opus is already better than GPT 5, a smart move will be releasing it BEFORE GPT 5. People will find out that GPT 5 as a later model performance worse than Opus 4.1.
Anyway, this is just my thought. As a coder, I really like the competition between providers, and I don’t have “royalty” for them. If you like the article, please leave some comments and likes. If you don’t like, blunt criticisms are welcomed.
